Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,

We hope everyone had a restful and refreshing Easter break. The holidays offered a valuable opportunity to pause, recharge, and spend quality time with family and friends. For many, it was also a chance to catch up on revision ahead of the busy weeks/months to come. The sunshine during that first week certainly helped lift everyone’s spirits…what a treat to have some warm weather to kick off the break!

Before we look ahead about what is to come in the summer term, I wanted to take a moment to recap the end of the spring term.

Our end of term assembly focused on the theme of unexpected events and outcomes. It was filled with humorous tales that many of us could relate to. But beyond the laughter, there was a powerful message encouraging students to seize the day and take control when the unexpected happens.

This was the first full assembly planned and delivered by our new Student Leadership Team. They did an outstanding job setting a very high standard for the rest of the year.

The extracurricular timetable for the summer term will be published very soon.  Please encourage your daughter to check what is available and to find at least one club that she would like to participate in.  The Year 7 Geography club shared this lovely write up of what they got up to last term:

We really enjoyed geography club last term; it was run by the sixth formers.

Our highlight was the bird feeding session. Firstly, we covered toilet rolls in lard, then we added some string. Next, we rolled them in bird seed. After that, we were finished, and they were ready to be hung up around the school.

Another enjoyable activity was creating seed bombs. We started by putting some bicarbonate of soda into wet soil. We then rolled the mixture into balls with our hands and covered them in seeds. Finally, we put them in plastic bags to keep them safe until they were ready for use.

Throughout the half-term, we also made model volcanoes out of cardboard and papier-mâché. On Thursday lunchtime, we erupted the volcanoes using Coca-Cola and Mentos. However, ours did not work very well because our bottle of Coke was flat.

Thank you to Sophie and Izzy in Year 7 for the write up.  Hopefully this will inspire your daughter to get involved and join the fun!

The languages department have been busy organising an exchange with a school in France.  The French students visited for the first time, just before the Easter holidays.  Mrs Amye shared the following update:

What an unforgettable day it was welcoming our French penpals from St Thomas, Roncq! From observing our exciting lessons to being wowed by our Art, Food Tech, and Textile departments, they truly experienced the best of our school. The highlight? A fun and delicious cooking project with Holt students under the spring sunshine! Smiles, laughter, and new friendships filled the air. A huge thank you to Mrs. Amrit and Nyazika for her incredible support and energy. This is what the French exchange is all about—sharing cultures, learning together, and making memories. Don’t miss out next time—join the adventure!

Our students will be going to visit their French exchange pals in France during the autumn term.

This is a very short half term but extremely busy for our Year 11 and Year 13 students preparing for their GCSE and A level exams.  We wish them lots of luck and feel confident that their hard work and effort will pay off.
