Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,
What better way to start off the blog this this week than with some delicious cake.
Friday 27th September saw Year 7 and 12 students bring cakes and other baked goods into school to sell for Macmillan coffee morning organised by the Technology Team. Students arrived in the Main Hall at break time where they purchased delicious cakes and cookies. It was great to see how many students were baking their own, and they filled the hall with a rainbow of colours. Overall, we raised £1006 which will be donated to the Macmillan. Thank you to all students that brought in cakes as well as 6th formers who helped organise and sell.
As an avid viewer of the Great British Bake off, I believe our cakes would have stood up well against the bakers and given them a run for their money! Thank you to Mrs Nyazika and the technology team for all your support in running the event. Thanks to Year 7 students for their baking, and the sixth form for their cake donations but also their support of the technology department on the day.
Continuing on the theme of charity, we are also grateful for the huge number of donations for Harvest. The Harvest display boards have been created, assembly rehearsals have been taking place, and I currently have pictures of laminated fruits and vegetables in my office ready to reveal the current house totals by our senior house prefects. I will let Mrs Smith tell you all about it in next week’s blog.
Another standing item in the autumn term calendar is the Year 7 trip to Ufton Court:
Mrs Izod-Martin, Head of Year 7 said:
‘On Tuesday 1st October Year 7 made their way to Ufton Court for a team building day. The students rotated around different games which saw them building chariots; working as a team to get a makeshift raft from one area to another; grabbing balls whilst moving around on skateboards; and catching catapults in parachutes! Spirits remained high, despite the rain, and it was brilliant to see them continuing to forge strong friendships with one another. Sometimes it is the smaller things that leave an impression, and I was really pleased to hear them all thanking the coach drivers upon our arrival back to school, as well as seeing them look out for one another with small acts of kindness woven throughout the day’.
Well done to Year 7 for a great trip and thank you Mrs Izod-Martin and all the Year 7 tutors for their planning and support of the day.
We also welcomed our Year 11 parents to information evening this week. Mrs Priddy shared useful information about what the year would look like, top tips on revision and how to support Year 11s through their GCSEs. There were also three of our Year 12 students who shared what it was like for them during their GCSEs, and it was valuable to hear the highs and lows that they experienced, and how they came through it all so successfully. Thank you, Mrs Priddy, for leading such an informative evening and to Alolika, Shruthi and Aarushi.
As always, it’s a busy and varied week in school. There’s so much that is going on and these blogs just give a few highlights.. We are truly into the swing of the autumn term, and the weather is certainly now reflecting this!
