Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends
Welcome back to the summer term at The Holt. I hope everyone had an enjoyable break and that our students are feeling recharged for the summer term ahead.
I would like to begin this term by looking back at some of the wonderful events that were held at the end of the spring term.
Charity
On Thursday 31st March, we held a non-school uniform day in aid of the British Red Cross. Alongside this, Miss Pyle organised a whole school bake sale. Any of our regular readers will know that The Holt certainly enjoys a bake sale, and this is a great source of charity fundraising for our students. Well done and thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and purchased cakes. A total of £300 was raised over lunchtime.
Year 9 Science Challenge
On 29th March the Science department organised a house event for our Year 9 cohort. The year group initially completed a quiz during lesson time and the students who achieved the highest scores were then chosen to represent their house in the Science Challenge. Clothworkers and Goldsmiths made it to the final. It was a close competition with Goldsmiths eventually winning the prize after a challenging tie breaker round. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
Careers Fair
On 1st April, Mrs Hart organised a whole school careers fair. This is a mammoth organisational task. Mrs Hart has spent many months on the lead up to the event liaising with local employers to ensure that a wide range of industries were represented and to ensure that there really was something there for everybody. I would like to thank Mrs Hart, events like these are so helpful for young people to gain an insight into the world of work and consider the many different career pathways available to them. I would also like to extend out thanks to the exhibitors, everyone was so approachable and supportive of our students. We are appreciative of their time and energy; often speaking to over one thousand students throughout the duration of the day.

Drama and Music
During the final week of term, our Music and Drama department took the opportunity to show case their talent. On 4th April the year 10 GCSE students performed for parents. The standard of the performances was outstanding. On Wednesday 6th April we were treated to a vocal and woodwind concert organised by the music department. The talent displayed by the students was fantastic.
The Music department also arranged for a group of Year 7 and 8 students to see a live orchestral event: ‘Cinema in Symphony’ at the Anvil in Basingstoke. The concert contained a range of well-known film themes including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Magnificent Seven as well as a performance of ‘Downton Abbey Suite’ performed by the composer himself: John Lunn.
This was another great experience for our students and as you can see from the pictures below the teachers had a lovely time too!
Looking ahead, the focus for this half term is to help our Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 students prepare for public exams. Thank you to our Year 7,8 and 9 parents who attended our information evening yesterday, more information on this to follow.
